A Note About the White Belt

This is the most important one. It's the belt of commitment. Without it, there's no chance of earning a black belt or advancing beyond your current level.

If you don't have this belt, we encourage you to join and give our dojo a chance to show you the impact being trained in self-defense can have on your life today.

You've done it! The requirements for the black belt (Dan) are as unique as the person being tested. Every rank before this (Kyu) are the ranks of knowledge.  The ranks of Dan are the ranks of understanding.

It's important to mention that improving in your karate is less like taking steps on a ladder and more akin to moving deeper in water; there's a tangible feeling of the build up of pressure as you go. As you learn new kata, it's imperative that you improve the kata you've already learned.

Movement is essential. While it is necessary to focus on improving your speed, power, and precision as you progress, without intention, kata become no different than dance.

Kata are like books. They preserve knowledge of techniques that would otherwise be forgotten. In order to retain them, they must be practiced diligently.
